The defence of Quinx

A sector embattled! As the forces of the Emperor weather the storm of Abbadon's Thirteen black crusade at the Cadian Gate, a deadly war is waged in the far Scarus Sector, where the heretics have captured the forgeworld of Mordax Prime and threaten to take over all of the imperial holdings
Defiant from their seat of Nysa Stromlo, the Black Templars and their allies fight back the endless tide of blasphemous traitors, and battle is joined over Quinx when the imperials detect a heretic fleet entering the system led by the fearsome Planet Killer
The scenario rolled was a straight up fight without any objectives, both fleets squared up and the game began with the Black Templars seizing the initiative
Wary of the power of the Planet Killer, the imperilas deploy in two columns, that close rapidly on the enemy with full speed ahead

The imperial offensive is spearheaded by the thunderhawks, who after wiping out the enemy craft start delivering boarding parties to the chaos vessels
With weapons in range the templar strike cruisers open fire with broadsides and bombardment cannons
While the knights of Dorn set charges in the the generatorum of an enemy cruiser and blow up the vessel in a massive plasma ball
All doesn't go like a breeze for the imperials tough...
...and a single torpedo explodes within the Battlebarge's ammo store crippling the vessel instantly!
With damage suffered by both sides the battle now takes a more cautious turn, with the fleets maneuvering into the ideal combat position before committing to a fight
Both flagships trade fire across some gas nebulas
While the strike cruisers go round the formidable chaos battleship
With most of their weapons out of commission the chaos vessels are easy prey for the templars, who finish off the stricken cruisers with lances, bombardment turrets and macrocannons
Revenge is obtained in blood when one of the templar shells lands on an enemy shell magazine, and a fenomenal explosion rips the warship apart leaving it as a burning hulk!
With only the Planet Killer left, the chaos admiral decides that prudence is the better part of valor and jumps to the warp, leaving the Quinx system safely in imperial hands

Albrecht's regiment of foote

Albrecht Küste is one of the richest merchantmen in Altdorf. Originally from Averland, he made a fortune by importing all kinds of foodstuffs through the Reik to the imperial capital in well protected boats manned by his own personal army of sailors and guards. Despite, or because of his riches, Küste is also a concerned imperial citizen, and has outfitted a small regiment of halberdiers in service to Altdorf, who have seen combat against the myriad foes that threaten Sigmar's empire. Made up by an assortment of mercenaries from places as far as Tilea and Estalia, the unit has distinguished itself in the recent campaigns against the hordes of chaos, and many a foe has met its end under the blades of these fashionably dressed soldiers.
This unit is again a mixed batch, with miniatures from battlemasters, empire 6th edition and those splendid imperials from Gamezone, my favorite of the bunch
The banner was based on a griffon design i found in the web. First I painted the inner lines of the figure, then I drew the outline and filled it up, with details such as the wings, claws and hair tufts left for later. The final touch was drawing some cutout lines with the background colour to give depth to the design
This unit (and all the battlemasters you'll see here) was lent to me by my good friend Albert, so I decided to write a bit of fluff involving him with the regiment

He also leased me this spearmen, whom I needed to complete the unit you saw some weeks ago

Reiter Freikorps

Despite being a merchant city Altdorf is not without its nobility, but given that the aristocrats of Reikland prefer to enter into one of the knightly orders such as the Reiksguard or the Knight Griffon, the city has had to become creative to get its own heavy cavalry force, opening the gates to adventurers and exiled knights from all over the Old World to the Freikorps cavalry squadrons. While not as august as the templar brethren, these riders know their trade, and many a battle has been won by the ferocious charge of these veteran mercenary warriors.
Models are again from battlemasters, mixing both flavours of knights with the imperial warhorse miniature to get a more varied look in the unit

Proudly dressed in the blue and gold of Altdorf, the Freikorps rides to war
