I really liked the new custodes and I took the chance to get one of their grav tanks, an elegant and sleek warmachine that will provide long ranged firepower to the golden ranks of the Emperor's praetorians

Once a soldier in the Ostermark army, Oglok lost his job when the comet destroyed Mordheim and all the royal court. Today he makes his trade as a mercenary, putting his sword to the service of any warband that can pay his price. 

The battle of Sarlax

And so we come to the end of the Agripina A campaign. Bereft of fleet the chaos hordes are stranded in the agriworld of Sarlax, and soon the Adeptus Custodes land to wipe them out

Based on a grain silo the golden legion starts an aggressive drive for the objectives

Seizing several of them under a heavy fire that kills some praetorians

In the chaos second turn all their reserves land

Opening a devastating fire that destroys a guardian and sagittarum squads

The imperials soon get their payback when the second golden wave hits the table

First to fall is an armiger knight

Followed by the massive Vextrix warlord

The custodians then get stuck in, and to what they know best

Annihilating all the khorne berzekers

The chaos lords try to stem the tide charging back

But one of them falls to the blade champion

Khârn proves one more his worth killing a shield captain in one go

But is then blown away by the custodian bolters using the salvus ka'tah

In the third turn the golden host wipes out most of the remaining heretics

Slaughtering units left and right

In the end only the chaos lord, the dreadclaw and a lone cultist remain, bagging the Imperium an easy win 50-8

Custodian assault

 

The imperials land on Albitern after defeating the orbiting chaos fleet by the slightest margin and get to work purging the planet from the taint of chaos. With the hives in the hands of the heretics the invasion is spearheaded by the Legio Custodes and the knight of house cervaria

Thanks to their superior biology the praetorians of Terra endure a punishing fusillade in the first turn

Charging then into the foe covered by the crusader knight and the sagittarum squad

Next turn the bulk of the ten thousand appears behind enemy lines, unleashing a storm of mastercrafted bolter fire thanks to the salvus ka'tah

A venerable land raider also joins the fight, zeroing into the enemy knight and bringing it down with devastating lascannon fire

Adding up to the slaughter the cervaria crusader melts an unfortunate chaos dreadnought

It is then time for the custodians to charge and do what they know best

And killing for good the resurrected vextrix engine

It is then that the chaos reserves appear belatedly on the battlefield

And when one custodes terminator is killed by the argiber's overwhelming firepower

The golden guard is not put off by such loss, and in the third turn the custodians launch a series of charges that see the chaos slaves all but wiped out

The terminators are finally slaughtered by Achilles-Diomedes

With most of his army destroyed the chaos player concedes the game, winning the custodes 64 to 10

Sagittarum guard

 

This squad of gun-toting custodians will give a much needed firepower to my Talons of the Emperor army, and since they're troops now, these are an ideal choice to castle up on an objective

I decorated their helmets with horsehair plumes, inspired by the above artwork of Adrian Smith, my main custodes reference for conversions and paint schemes

Equipped with a misericordia powerknife this guards are no slouches in melee either!
