I wasn't much of a Witcher fun until I started playing Wild Hunt, and while the gameplay has some issues, the graphics and the story are pretty engaging. Also given that everyone is dressed in tudor era clothes it was like playing in the Warhammer Fantasy world. Nowadays there's a wealth of 3D models and printers so I grabbed Geralt and Ciri from my local dealer to play some Mordheim. Yennefer will join them shortly, plus some other characters to form a witcher (Middenheim) warband!

From their fortress in the Middle Mountains the Imperial Order of Beast Hunters has been the bane of many fell terrors that have threatened the Empire. Now, with the rampant mutations created by the warpstone comet that has flattened Mordheim, and with the vampire counts on the rise, they have more work than ever; and they take to the wildands to slaughter the monstrous creatures.. for a price

Gerhart of Reikvia is a veteran member of the order, and a capable warrior both at ranged and close quarters, like most knight of the order he's armed with a pair of mastercrafted swords and a crossbow

His daughter Christa, or Cristi for friends, is a more novice member of the team, but still a fearsome monster hunter thanks to the magic potions that hunters of the order drink to bolster their strength

Tanai death cult assassin

 

Tanai is a member of the Blessed Cut, a death cult based on the Temenos hive of Necromunda. The cult pays fealty to the planet's cardinal and works as his hidden arm in the shadows eliminating the enemies of the church, complementing the more visible sword of the battle sisters of  the Bloody Rose order. Its members are all orphaned girls, left at the gates of its murder fane on the northern spire and raised through a series of vicious trials that culminate in the Blooding: a rite through which the trainee must bring the head of a chosen heretic to the monastery in order to become one of its assassins. Unlike more primitive assassins from feral planets, the Blessed Cut doesn't eschew the use of firearms, its agents wielding all kinds of pistols together with their consecrated powerblades. The cult also makes extensive use of drugs like frenzon and slaught; all its members carrying an injector rig on their backs to give them an extra kick in combat.

The tight bodysuit worn by Tanai is actually a sophisticated model of light armor that also includes life support systems and a heat regulating surface

Members of the cult are renowned for being extraordinarily quick and agile, able to evade even gunshots with surprising swiftness

Most assassins of the cult prefer close ranged firearms such as hand flamers and pistols, all of surpassing quality and craftsmanship

In recent times the cult has been working with several redemptionist bands following the increasingly radical leanings of cardinal Ahrmund

Desert war

After the last rebel victory, the battle for the galaxy takes us to a desertic and heavily industrialized planet, where our brave freedom fighters clash with the tyrannical emperor and his apprentice

The two jedi charge into their foes

Causing devastating losses on the dark siders

The emperor isn't a slouch either, vaporizing a squad of rebels with his sith lightning

The scout bikes blast some rebels, but are then totaled by massed fire

On the other side of the battlefield, the mandalorians have seized the high ground, and maul the ATST with rockets and Westar-35 pistols

The shaky walker is shortly cut down by Luke

Who piles in on the big duel between Ahsoka and Vader

The last turn has come, and the rebels outnumber the imps on one objective

Holding easily the other two with the mando resistance

Witcher boardgame

 

I've been playing Witcher 3 lately and thought it would be cool to adapt my board game system to the setting. This game works pretty much like the renaissance and Warhammer  that I've already published but with some flavorful additions like monsters and of course witchers. You'll find the rulebook below and all the cards and marker.

Northern Kingdoms

Battle of Almansa 1707

 

After the successful rising of the crown of Aragon in 1705 the cause of Philip V in Spain has received a severe blow, but the bourbons have amassed a huge army and give battle to the allies when they invade Castilla la Mancha  in april 1707

The spanish and french regiments outnumber easily the foe, and marshal Berwick advances confidently 

The allies respond launching their cavalry forwards

Which is met by bourbon squadrons formed in line

Meanwhile the allied center fans out to form a gunline

After a first dragoon clash on the right the british riders move behind the bourbons

In the center things have escalated also, with a mass of spanish infantry charging the thin red line

Next to them an austrian division is charged by the french

In the forest of the extreme left an indecisive melee has started, these two units would keep pushing back and forth during the whole game with no one coming on top

Back at the allied center the french dragoons have been repulsed by musket volleys and cold steel

But their british comrades are overwhelmed by twice the number of spanish

Sadly in this combat the brilliant Berwick is killed while leading from the front

In the allied rear a dutch regiment is caught in line by cavalry and cut to pieces

Menaced by the enemy riders the austrians form square

In the bourbon lines the artillery has advanced too recklessly and is wiped out by canister fire

Paltry losses compared with the destruction visited on the allies, who lose two units in a single turn

The bourbons have conquered the center, but on the flanks things aren't so clear

With the british dragoons dodging the enemy cavalry

The bourbons form squares and charge the last imperial division

But are repelled and sabred by the british while fleeing

Alas the enemy numbers are too much for the germans and they are wiped out by the spanish 

The british keep with their glorious charge routing a unit of french dragoons

But in turn they are caught on the rear by their pursuers and also destroyed

And at last, in the final turn of the battle the allies fail their morale check and abandon the battlefield
