Tunisia: operation torch

It is finally time for our bolt action campaign, the setting: the vast tunisian desert, the players: the veteran Afrika Korps facing the yet untested american army. Our first scenario is a clash between both armies on the road to Tunisia during the last days of Operation Torch
The americans are first into the field, taking cover behind rocks and sandbags
While the nazis seize the central redoubt
In the second turn all american guns zero in on the advanced german squad, that is decimated and smothered under a veritable storm of lead
More and more GIs come to the battlefield, starting to outnumber the Wehrmacht
The axis is not without reinforcements however, and a fresh squad of ten men marches into battle
The central unit are beginning to feel the heat, but the americans have bagged way more kills than the germans and now it's only a matter of time
Fresh and steady the rearguard fires their garand rifles, annihilating the first german squad
Then the central veterans are also wiped out
Surging with confidence the americans rush forwards, slaughtering the enemy leftnant at bayonet point

The second unit of vets is destroyed by point blank fire
And the last german turns tail and flees

18th century cavalry

I had some Old Glory models awaiting paint in a box, and as I had vowed not to buy new miniatures until all were painted I had to finally take care of tem after more than five years of neglect.
First in the queue were some hussars, that I painted as austrians from the Splényi regiment; I couldn't resist their fashionable mix of reds and greens
They didn't actually have any flags, but since the set comes with a standard bearer I gave him a generic austrian banner

Then come two cuirassiers sneakily painted as french dragons du roy because I needed some reinforcements to bring that unit to the legal size of four bases

And to round it up a hussar general dripping with gold trim

Heer infantry

Soldiers of the Reich ready to battle the allies. These are from warlord miniatures and were a pain to assemble, full of flash and mouldlines with the rifles separated from the arms, their only saving grace (if any) is that their feet are glued straight to the base without a peg like perry's
I painted half as regulars in green and the rest as veteran infantry with a spotted camo uniform

I used agrax to give them a wash but it came out too shiny unlike the americans

Forth eorlingas

Having beaten all the assaults on Helm's Deep, king Theoden and the defenders charge into the mass of uruks with the first light of the fifth day
Aragorn and Eomer take the lead, killing all the enemies in the causeway
Uruk captains and warriors fall before the might of these heroes
Arrows fall on the brave captains of the west, but only manage to kill Theoden's horse
It is then that Gandalf and the rohirrim arrive to seal the deal
Arrows and magic blasts flow true, killing several orcs and uruks
Then the riders of Rohan charge into the fray
Enveloping and slaughtering some luckless soldiers of Saruman
In the causeway the push of the company of heroes grinds relentlessly on leaving the best warriors of the besieging army dead in its wake
Gandalf splits his force in two, leading a detachment to slaughter a an isolated force of uruks while the rest circle around the foe unleashing a veritable storm of arrows
The heroes have reached the end of the ramp and clash with a mass of evil warriors

Eomer proves once again his mettle by slaughtering an uruk banner bearer and another orc while outnumbered six to one
Theoden and Aragorn don't lag behind and orc after orc fall under their blades
The riders of Rohan charge into the last remnants of the enemy rearguard slaughtering most of it
With more than half his warriors killed to no Rohan loss the evil player concedes
