40K 30 anniversary
Today there was much rejoicing at the local GW to celebrate the third decade of warhammer 40000. The staff organized events all day: during the morning there was an AoS tournament and a crazy race using all kinds of models; in the afternoon we had a 40k tournament and there I headed with my combination of marines & guard.
My opponent was chaos, hadn't played against them for almost a year
The black legion was led by a fearsome daemon prince
The prince pulled off a first turn charge thanks to a psychic power
He killed some conscripts, but the guardsmen managed to give him two wounds at bayonet point.
Next turn my kasrkins dropped behind some marines and killed most with meltas
The daemon, caught in a crossfire by devastators & conscripts, was destroyed
The kasrkin were lucky and none died, next turn they wiped out the squad
The remianing heretics climbed on a bastion for the final last stand
But the mass of lascannons and meltas killed them all next turn
It was then a matter of exterminating the remnants of the other victorious armies (we were 6 players, 3 of which passed to the 2nd phase) with my practially intact forces. A walk in the park.
The winner of the tournament got a surprise present: a set of 40k artwork postcards with some of my favourite artworks, the roguetrader cover amongst them; nice!

The last alliance
The gaming season is on! Our first game is the last alliance since we're gonna devote this month to LotR battles. The rules for the scenario are quite straightforwards: the good has to kill Sauron and the evil 4 of the 5 heroes within 15 turns in order to win. The game is played with the GW rulebook at 1400pts.
The good side is made up of all the free peoples: dwarfs led by their king Durin
Men of Numenor under Isildur & Elendil
Elves led by Gil-Galad and Elrond
And one eagle
The bad guys include Sauron, orcs and trolls
The good begins by keeping the heroes back and sending the warriors forward
The evil, badly outgunned, must advance too
The dark lord himself
The eagle advances and wins a combat against two trolls
Sauron uses his magic to wound the bird and puppet it into the middle of his forces
The eagle won't last long there
While some good warriors advance, the rest shoot
The four main heroes form a block behind their men
Eagle still fighting (not for long)
Sauron moves to smash some heads, a mistake since he is far better at launching spells and can't do that in combat
As the two lines crash combats spread, the trolls are killing machines, but the orcs die quite fast
Goodbye eagle!
A troll is killed by men with two handed weapons
Seven turns have passed and the battle stands on a knife's edge, however my opponent has got enough and decided to concede. Victory for evil then!

Imperium vs Imperium
Another match of 40k, this time an imperium bash. Whoever wins +1 point for the imperium side of the global campaign.
I brought my trusty custodes
With conscripts/cultists (heresy!)
And Guilliman+firebase
My opponent had tons of guardsmen
Primarines! Resistant but not very killy.
And some more blood angels
First turn the cultists decimated a unit of guards
While the custodes ran ahead
Next turn one unit of guards was killed.
At this point my camera ran out of memo (I had left the card home!), luckily not much happened, the custodes butchered some marines losing two guardians, and my left conscripts were wiped out.
Battle ended as my opponent had to leave, I won by just one VP.
I wanted to try two things: Guilliman and the conscripts. Guillie was wasted as a support character and should have joined the custodes charge; while the conscripts killed as much as the same number of guardsmen. Still I think that a punisher russ is more killy-resistant (and a better buy?) than a blob of conscripts+comissar+cmdr.
